2026 guide

Canadian email providers, compared.

Six services, their prices and where your email actually lives. We include ourselves, and we say where we fall short.

Short version. Want your email stored in Canada? NorthMail if you want free, Typewire if you'll pay for more privacy. Your business wants an address on its own domain hosted in Canada? WHC, in Montréal. Health care? Hushmail is built for it. Want free disposable aliases, fraud protection and a Québec company? MedLiam, knowing our servers are in Berlin for now.

Why pick a provider from here?

French and English. A service built here answers you in your language.
Québec's Law 25, for businesses. Before handing personal information to a service outside Québec, a business must assess the risks. The closer your email is, the simpler that gets.
Taxes and invoices. Prices in Canadian dollars, GST and QST on the invoice, like the rest of your expenses.
Buying local. Your money stays with a Canadian company instead of a U.S. tech giant.

Where MedLiam stands, honestly

MedLiam is owned by Medtra Inc., a company based in Pointe-Claire. Our mail servers are in Berlin, Germany, and we run them ourselves. If you need your email physically in Canada today, NorthMail, Typewire or WHC are better picks. Hosting in Québec is coming for health care and public bodies.

What we do that others don't offer for free:

Disposable aliases: one address per site, which you shut off if it leaks.
Fraud protection: fake bank emails and look-alike domains flagged before you click.
Tracking pixels blocked: senders don't see your IP address or when you read.
No ads, even on the free plan.

How to choose in thirty seconds

You want free and stored in Canada: NorthMail.
You'll pay for encryption and Canadian servers: Typewire.
You want a bundle of addresses for your team, hosted in Canada: WHC.
